Here we are at the start of a New Year. Welcome to 2024! The realization that another year has passed (meaning another year older …. Blahhh) means that there is an opportunity to reflect on the “what was” and do so from a perspective of learning and gratitude. For the first time, in a long time, I decided that I will approach the new year differently. I made the decision to forego making a New Year’s Resolution. Yup … no self promises that I will workout more, that I will read more, that I will do more of this and less of that …. Nope …. No resolutions at all.
Rather, in place of a resolution, I intentionally and mindfully made the decision to truly reflect on this past year and to do so with the intent to gain insight on all the things that were great and that I want to continue to do into 2024 and beyond; and all the things that I want to understand better where I had mis-steps in hopes of not repeating. None of us can do the “Quantum Leap” and go back in time to change the, “what was” but we can be grateful for all the experiences that brought us to the place we are today. Of course, this time next year, this can all change again, but for now let’s pause and reflect on how great it is to have those things in life that are important to us. Like for many, to me that is good health, family, friends, freedom to explore and voice opinions, to get involved in my community and for discovering a fabulous new Nappa Valley wine …. Oops I digress.
I will not start 2024 with looking back and telling myself, “I should have …. “ or “Why didn’t I … “ but rather I will focus on being thankful for the many gifts of 2023 that brought me to the right here and now. There is a reason …. there must be a reason but what it is I do not know yet … for all the challenges and adventures past and ahead. The journey of 2024 awaits, and I wonder where it will take me? Well … stay tuned.
In the meantime, I will continue to practice self care, give myself permission to make mistakes, to celebrate successes and strive to do my best each day as a Human Resources Professional, a member of my community, a mom, a sister, a friend, and most importantly … a Grandma.
Wishing you all a year filled with an exciting new adventure!
